Tying It All Together

Another semester at Arizona State University has come and gone.  It’s amazing to look back at how quickly it passed, while at the same time remembering how time seemed to stand still as the semester progressed.  There are no two ways around it.  This was a tough semester, and it gives me much greater pleasure in having done so well.

Also exciting is the feeling that “everything” is coming together.  Finally.  All of the courses taken thus far.  All of the nights and weekends spent studying.  All of the subject matter I’ve had to cram into my (sometimes unwilling) brain.  It’s all coming together into a coherent body of knowledge, and it’s invigorating. To the moon!

I’m looking forward to the coming string of weeks. Fun-packed adventure to be had!

Sunday, weather permitting, I will be taking my nephew out to launch some rockets. I’m looking forward to getting some video/photo coverage of our adventure.

The following weekend promises it will be spent somewhere north of Flagstaff, hopefully with a good view of the annular solar eclipse. I’m looking into DIY observation tools like pinhole projectors and perhaps something magnified. I will hopefully have something to test out this coming Tuesday before we go all the way up there and nothing works.

The evening of May 15th will be spent listening to Roger Waters build, and eventually destroy, the Wall.

In a couple more weeks, Active Margin, Null_Pointer and I will be heading to Kitt Peak to observe the transit of Venus across the sun, followed by a star party of grand proportion.

It has been far too long since my last post. I know school has devoured a large part of my time, but I still look back wondering how so many months went by without so much as a funny video or link to share. I will just pretend it never happened and hope nobody reads time stamps.

Over the past year I have become very interested in photography. I have even taken a few college-level courses to learn more about how to use my camera, as well as how to compose at least a decent shot. I have learned a lot, but the greatest thing I have learned so far is that being technically capable does not imply that one can just take good photographs.
